Today I want to start by quoting Carl G. Jung;
«We need to project ourselves into the things around us. My self is not confined to my body. It extends into all things I have made and all the things around me. Without these things, I would not be myself; I would not be a human being. I would merely be a human ape, a primate.»
We use things without making them our own. Just another «thing», to impress others, trying to make a change, – to fake the content we miss in our lives. We consult our conscious mind on the matter; where do I buy what I «have to have», and where do I get it for the best price. What a challenge.
I want to challenge my unconscious self. Every day I SEE my surroundings. I project my unconscious mind into everything my eyes are showing me, and it opens for an endless row of exciting and sobering experiences. Life becomes unpredictable. Like a child I get excited and enchanted. It might be the sun caressing a glass, a flower dropping its petals on the table – or a dish with some purple flowers – bubbles in the sink etc etc. It really is endless – if you do not force it, making it just another «thing» for showoff.
What we are surrounded by matters, but what is really important is how we see and how we interpret what we see to «our selves». Quoting Jung again; «Sometimes a tree tells you more than can be read in books.» He claimed we over valuated consciousness.
Do you see what you have planned to see? Offer yourself a break – and make it a habit. Be open and let your eyes uncensored show you what is surrounding you. It might be something you recognize, something long forgotten.
Here starts my little story about two poppies. They lived happily with their family till one day the wind came – and it was irritated as the wind sometimes can be. The poppies coped as best they could, but the small inexperienced ones did not follow – and two of them got their heads chopped off. Now a new era waited them indoors…
One was open, showing its orange, silky skirt, while the other was still closed making me wonder «will it open at all?
Two days later the first poppy felt free to throw it´s skirt.
the other one blushed – and opened. It´s head was so heavy, and it had no more energy to keep it lifted. With a soft bump it landed on the table.
the bouquet in the vase stayed cool and quiet.
while the head was confused and surprised to find itself separated from it´s mates.
«please do not be sad» I whispered, you are more beautiful than ever. The sun confirmed my words, and the little poppy with this painful childhood started to shine.
I could not take my eyes away.
This was the story of two poppies and their mates – a tragedy from everyday life with a happy ending – sort of – if you choose to SEE it that way.
How beautiful Elly!
I too see things in a different way these days and I just read another, but similar quote by Jung in a book I’m reading…. or was it a tree who told me? Not a coincidence I think……
Solveig, thank you for your kind comment. Jung is really worth reading – again – and again, but as with seeing we can read and read, but if we do not make it our own experience it is worthless.
Concerning coincidences; last summer I told Eirik there was one concert at Moldejazzen I would have liked to join, Leonard Cohen. Of course it was sold out. We were passing by Molde and went down the coast south of Kristiansund and stopped to find something to eat. Suddenly I saw some yellow paper blowing in the wind. Running after it I stood with two tickets in my hand – to the Leonard Cohen concert.
Of course Eirik had to snap them and run in to a touristplace to deliver them to «someone who had lost them».
No doubt in my soul, they were meant for me.
Elly,
I am certain that they were meant for you! – and I too like Leonard Cohen very much! I will get back to reading more Jung for sure.
A lovely, spiritual story of flowers!
Lauren I appreciate your comment a lot, thanks.

Anbefales!
