All the way from the royal castle down Karl Johan, the promenade street of Oslo, people stopped and gazed. With his eyes closed a young guard (gardist in Norwegian) was walking in the middle of the street as if he was in deep trance. Like a tin soldier he was frozen in the position with one hand pointing straight forward, and the other firmly holding the rifle. How extraordinary…people looking at each other, wondering if this was a kind of artistic performance.
In a way they were right – if you can call the cones artists. Do they have the right respect, the right background – or connections? Ok, they have creativity and they have courage, but so what? Who asks for creativity when there are serious discussions to be handled?
The truth is the cones have been travelling a lot lately. They have seen the WORLD! Sunbathing on the Australian beaches and hunting sharks in Egypt is just a few things to be mentioned. They have learned to know the visual arts and they have become familiar with literature. I only bring it on the table now to explain how they became art activists, even starting their own organization called IAR. Inspired by Stephen King who made «ignore all rules» the second rule of reading in his autobiographical «On Writing» the cones make their marks on the art stage. And now they are in Oslo questioning why artists seem to close their eyes for beauty? Like the cones, like the beautiful diva posing on the guards finger, safely leading him through the streets.
«SEE ME» is the title of their latest performance. For the purpose they have «borrowed» one of the guards from the royal castle. I have told you before, these creatures have no moral and absolutely no respect for authorities!!! Where will it end? Keep yourself updated on this phenomenon by subscribing to ARTGARDEN. Bringing ART to the people is a risky business…and attacks might come from the most unexpected sources.
