A few posts ago I showed samples from a commission I was working on. It has been an exciting journey, allowing me to browse through all my images of plants and general nature shots. It is amazing how the brain is storing knowledge and shows me exactly where to search for specific stored images my conscious brain has forgotten about. It is like when you listen to music. You know what is coming next, but if someone was asking, you could not tell.
It all starts with photos, then comes the long and exciting path to be followed digitally. My background as a printmaker is definitely shining through. Working with layer upon layer is familiar to me. And I assure you, each work ended up with a huge amount of layers. Elements were built up, sometimes by repeating and turning layers 10-20 times.
The element was used as part of a much bigger picture, together with new elements. It has been great working in big size, even though I had to imagine the size as I only saw bits and pieces on the screen. The thrill was almost unbearable when I was watching my «babies» as they came out of the printer (150 x 150) cm each. It took almost a couple of hours to print one.
I made six different pictures to be hung on different floors, as an invitation to everybody coming in. I hope they will feel I did my utmost to make it a memorable experience.
Who has not been thrilled by looking into a kaleidoscope, seeing how the light is opening for a magical world? You turn it and turn it, enchanted by the colors and shapes. It was a bit like that.
